TEDxSydney Youth: CTRL>Shift

TEDxSydney sparks meaningful conversations within the community and is the leading platform for sharing powerful Australian ideas in exciting formats.

The TEDxSydney Youth 2024 event, CTRL > SHIFT, was an opportunity for people to come together and hear from the leaders, visionaries, and voices of the future.

As part of our ongoing creative partnership with TEDxSydney, we were tasked to create a suite of visual and digital assets, helping to bring this event to life.

All assets needed to position young people at the forefront of societal transformation through an on-brand event identity.

Using the collaborative platform Figma, TEDxSydney representatives provided a mood board informing the design vision for their youth event. The mood board was inspired by playful visual themes, representing a digital identity, faith in absurdity and joy. Based on this initial brief, we began exploring three possible creative concepts for event collateral.

The chosen concept focuses on a visual identity driven by movement. It combines various shapes, colours and transitions to create a glitch-like animation. This approach positions young people as the leaders, change-makers and visionaries of the future, representing how their disruption of the status quo is causing a fundamental shift in society.

Assets created for TEDxSydney’s social media channels include static and carousel posts, stories and Reels. They utilise various shapes, animations and colours to communicate speaker announcements, partner updates and other event information.

In-line with the idea of an ever-evolving landscape, no asset design is completely the same. All event collateral is unique with variables in shape, colour and patterns, yet they are tied together using the same look and feel, structure and type treatment. Assets were initially designed with a simple layout which was then populated by experimental animations, communicating the chaos associated with a changing world.

Building on the TEDx brand colour palette, the assets utilise the iconic TEDx shades of white, red, black and grey and added shades of light pink, purple, green and blue. This extended colour palette adds a sense of dynamism to the animations, helping create a suite of eye-catching assets that are flexible across full and cropped visual devices.

The hero promotional video entices audiences through a combination of glitch animations, uplifting music, footage, images of the event speakers and key details about the day.

This visual identity assisted TEDxSydney in creating a meaningful youth event filled with incredible innovative spirit. Animated videos showcased on screens throughout the day allowed several remarkable presentations and performances to shine, providing attendants with inspiring insights and sparking meaningful conversations.
